1/12 scale "All in One" Gemini miniature

Last updated: August 6, 2007

A planned "All in One" type kit that will incorporate Accurate Models mixed medium approach to producing the parts necessary.

Typically the kit will feature resin, white metal, some laser cut acrylic and possibly styrene components.

Since Gemini only saw 10 active missions, the kit will feature a basic capsule design with variations to the equipment and retro-pack sections, more commonly referred to as the "adapter". The capsule nose will feature the different radar modules used on early and late versions. Overall, this kit will be quite large with an estimated 18" length by over 9" diameter ( at the rear ). Accurate Models is fortunate to have the talents of both Mr. David Weeks ( noted space modeler extraordinaire ), and Mr. John Ortmann Jr., noted space 3D visualist to assist in the blueprinting and 3D rapid prototyping.

PHASE 1 - MOCK-UP & CONCEPTUALS

This section of the portfolio focuses on the start up efforts made by Accurate to flesh-out a 1/12 scale Gemini, employing both a cardboard mock-up made from 1/12 scale blueprints, drawn by David Weeks, and  3D renders from the actual rapid prototype files.

This is a collection of images showing the entire process as it developed along. Final renders and portions such as the interior and adapter are featured in the separate sections.

PHASE 2 - CAPSULE PATTERNING

Once the conceptuals were produced, and agreed upon, the process of actually making the casting patterns begins, and no better place to begin than with the capsule shell and nose-plates. All major versions are made and shown in this section, as previously depicted in the above conceptuals portfolio. Features shown are the intricacies of the capsule plates, riveting, the RCS and Recovery sections, as well as the details on the front faceplates.

PHASE 3 - CAPSULE INTERIOR PATTERNING

Since we opted for operable hatches, the interior goes without saying. But to do so, and to the level that we have committed ourselves to, involved not only making the patterns, but doing it twice; once for test fit, and then again with the aid of the computer to get every major item to fit within the millimeters of space reserved for each respective part. And if that wasn't enough, the seats were just begging for...

PHASE 4 - ASTRONAUT PATTERNING

...yes of course, you guessed it, really accurate 1/12 scale Gemini astronauts. This section covers the conceptuals developed by John Ortmann, as well as the rapid prototypes that were grown at Printapart ( Fine-Line rapid studio ), by Andrew Rogers and his company. As a super detailed measure, the faceplate is under investigation for clear injection plastic. TBD, but nonetheless the goal, and complete with supply hoses.

PHASE 5 - ADAPTER PATTERNING

Not to be relegated to any lesser importance than all of the above, these two sections - the equipment module and the retro module, will have just about about every panel and rivet ever seen on in flight versions. They are designed as 2 sections each module, with a separation plane, and rear shroud. Featured will be the OAM systems jets.

PHASE 6 - MOLDING & CASTING

Follow along as the molding and casting techniques are shown for clarification and examples of the elements which will make up the prototype build-up and first test parts.
