On October 11, 2010, Custom Replicas delivered its recently completed studio scale Battlestar Galactica to the famed Science Fiction Museum for an 18 month long exhibit.
Arrival at the Sci-Fi Museum; Carlyle Livingston, II (left) and Jim Key (right) use the transport sled, to deliver the studio-scale Galactica miniature to the Sci-Fi Museum's Galactica exhibit gallery.
To perform the installation, the miniature had to be "handed" around the case's plexi support bars, then aligned over the armature mount as Charles Adams (middle) spotted the power cable.
The power and switching cable is carefully fed down the armature mount, to prevent kinks, before final setting of the miniature.
Setting the miniature into final position, as a relieved crew share the moment, as measurements of the pipe diameter bear out as anticipated.
Charles Adams fits a missing screw plug into the upper engine plate cover.
As the plugs are being fitted, a mini-level is placed atop the mid-section to check the overall X and Y axis alignment.
With front lifting pipe removed, Jim Key installs the front nose plate, via two tiny painted Allen type hex screws.
A minor check of the Landing Bay chase lights, via the trim pot located in front of the rear end-cap. After adjustment, the end-cap is simply slid back into the closed position.
Powering up the miniature via the switch box, to do an overall inspection of the numerous fiber-optic system.
Finalization; left to right on the X axis and low vs. high on the Y axis, using the level.
Cooling fans check (note under rear engine). Two fan system provides exhaust for warm air at rear of miniature, with input of refreshed cooler air in the front, under the nose section.
Job well done, as Carlyle Livingston, Jim Key and Charles Adams pose for a group portrait.
Jim Key (left) explains construction details to Sci-Fi Museum curator, Brooks Peck, who was to say the least, "relieved" to have the installation complete and functioning properly.
